Eight hundred years ago, Master Mateo raised within the Cathedral of Santiago a stone choir that embodied polyphony: a monument to music carved in granite, where the song that would fill the nave was born. That choir fell silent, yet its idea endures.

The Coro Mestre Mateo takes up this legacy and gives the stone back its voice. We are a professional vocal ensemble devoted to bringing sound to the Romanesque churches and cathedrals of Galicia, with a sacred a cappella repertoire in the lineage of the great tradition of Hispanic polyphony.
